Johan specialises in European competition, regulation and policy, providing strategic advice to clients on major transactions and on their dealings with governments and independent government agencies in Brussels, the Netherlands, and other European countries. He works across a broad range of sectors but has a particular focus on technology, digital markets, media and infrastructure.
Johan’s advice draws on over 25 years of experience in regulation, competition and policy. His career combines time in the public and private sectors and has enabled him to develop a thorough understanding of governments and regulators and how they make decisions.
Johan joined Flint from a role as senior advisor at economic consultancy Oxera and he previously led Meta's Connectivity and Access Policy team the EMEA region. Prior to that Johan was competition and regulatory director at the Dutch Authority of Consumers and Markets (ACM) and one of its predecessors, OPTA, the Dutch telecoms and postal regulator. He led the ACM’s work in the telecoms, postal and transport sectors, as well as working with European peers in BEREC, the EU group of telecoms regulators. Earlier in his career Johan worked for an internet startup building the first mobile applications in the Netherlands and for KLM Airlines on strategic policy and mergers.
