We are delighted that Andy King will be joining Flint Global as a Specialist Partner this autumn following his departure from the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR). Andy will head up a new Flint service offering economic impact analysis to clients, with the capability to model the impact – at both national and regional levels – of government policies, proposed investments and company-specific activities.
Andy is one of the foremost macro forecasters and economic modelers in the UK. He has spent five years as one of the three members of the OBR’s Budget Responsibility Committee, which is responsible for producing the government’s official economic forecasts and for signing off its estimates of the fiscal impact of new policy measures. During that period, Andy has played a leading role in providing the Government with independent, objective analysis during periods of significant economic turmoil – from Brexit to Covid to the fallout from the mini-Budget – alongside historically significant moves in spending and tax.
Andy has been at the OBR for over a decade, having previously been its Chief of Staff. Before that, he was at the Treasury in a variety of senior roles. Andy also acts as a technical adviser for the IMF’s Fiscal Affairs Department in several low-income countries.
This experience gives Andy a deep and unique understanding of the objective, evidence based economic modelling and assessments that are the crucial underpinning of tax, spending and other policy decisions made by the Government, and how they will assess business cases for specific investment decisions.
As well as leading Flint’s economic impact analysis work, Andy will provide clients with insight on the broader macro-economic climate and outlook, which will of course continue to drive policymaking significantly.
