The economic value of Google Pay: Evidence from EU and UK consumers and businesses

Small improvements in online and in-store payments can generate large economic benefits when they operate at scale. This Flint report, commissioned by Google, finds that faster, safer and lower-friction payment journeys generate material benefits for consumers, businesses and the wider economy. Drawing on new survey evidence and economic modelling, we estimate that Google Pay contributed around €20bn to GDP across the EU and UK in 2025. This contribution could exceed €30bn by 2030. The findings highlight how reducing everyday payment frictions can support higher productivity, stronger business performance and greater consumer confidence across the digital economy.
