On 10 December, Flint Global, in partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS), hosted an official pre-Summit event for the India-AI Impact Summit 2026, convening an exclusive, invite-only breakfast roundtable in Mumbai. Closely aligned with the Summit’s “Inclusion for Social Empowerment” chakra, this 90-minute discussion brought together senior policymakers, financial industry leaders, civil society representatives, and academics to explore how AI can enhance accessibility and inclusion in India’s financial services ecosystem.
The roundtable built on insights from Flint Global’s recent report outlining a policy vision for accelerating AI adoption across APAC.
Participants began by identifying the principal barriers to AI diffusion in financial services. Risk aversion among data fiduciaries, a lack of public trust and understanding of AI, and persistent challenges around data standardisation and legacy systems were highlighted as key obstacles. Regulatory uncertainty and skilling gaps were also seen as critical hurdles, with concerns that overly prescriptive frameworks could stifle innovation. The lack of clarity on data rights under India’s DPDP Act and inconsistent approaches to data sovereignty further complicate adoption, while attendees stressed the importance of collaborative frameworks for risk management beyond compliance checklists.
Despite these hurdles, the conversation highlighted significant opportunities for AI to drive financial inclusion. Examples of pioneering use cases discussed included the Securities and Exchange Board of India’s (SEBI) deployment of on-premise LLMs for IPO document processing. Financial institutions pointed to AI-powered video KYC and transaction monitoring as tools to improve efficiency and reach underserved populations. Representatives from academia highlighted the potential to leverage synthetic data to address accuracy concerns like hallucination.
The discussion concluded with strong support for coordinated action and candid, long-term engagement between regulators and industry. Key recommendations that emerged include:
Flint Global is proud to have convened this critical dialogue ahead of the India-AI Impact Summit 2026 and looks forward to continuing to shape policy and industry conversations on inclusive and responsible AI adoption.
